eLEAF Competence Center

PiMapping® technology is the result of 15 years of research and development by eLEAF's Competence Center (formerly WaterWatch). eLEAF Competence Center is active worldwide, and has completed projects in over 30 countries. A team of scientists work in the transition area between remote sensing science and operational applications creating knowledge for a structural solution to feeding the world sustainably. Together, they produce spatially discrete information on hydrological processes and water management issues at scales ranging from single fields up to river basins. eLEAF Competence Center is the original developer and intellectual owner of the Surface Energy Balance Algorithm for Land (SEBAL).

Projects focus on:

  • crop water productivity or water use efficiency (kg/m3 and $/m3)
  • irrigation and drainage performance, including a socio-economic dimension
  • agricultural and ecological drought analysis
  • water conservation and water savings (i.e. ET reduction)
  • groundwater management and aquifer restoration plans
  • water use planning
